Joystix Monospace from Typodermic Fonts Inc is a free pixel font with the blunt, upright look of early arcade lettering. Its broad forms carry substantial weight, with squared openings and clipped inner turns that make the alphabet feel decidedly mechanical. The spacing stays even and gives each letter a firm visual beat.
Arcade game title screens and electronic-music posters draw on the same hard-edged digital character, one nostalgic and the other deliberately synthetic. On gaming merchandise, snack packaging, or retro digital graphics, the letters can function like an interface element, turning a name or label into part of the screen-world imagery.

Joystix has been updated. Accented characters have been replaced, and punctuation and symbols have been added. The monospaced version remains free. A proportional version, Joystix Proportional, is also available.
The font is distributed under a license that permits free commercial use, sometimes referred to as a desktop license. This license permits installation on a computer and use of the font to create:
- Posters

Embedding the font in an app, e-book, on the web, or in another context not covered by the desktop license requires a different license. The following page lists distributors offering different license types. You may also contact the creator for assistance.
