ChunkFiveEx Font

Chunk Five Ex is a free ultra-heavy slab serif whose broad, blunt forms give display type the sturdy weight and directness of old advertising wood type. Low-contrast strokes, squared serifs, and tightly fitted letters produce a dense silhouette, with rounded bowls and soft joins keeping the mass from looking mechanical.

Posters are its most convincing home, especially for music and events. On packaging, merchandise, and pub signage, the blocky letterforms can become part of a badge, label, or storefront mark rather than serving as neutral text, linking each setting to the cheerful directness of vintage commercial printing and traditional painted shop signs.

With permission from Meredith Mandel, the original author of ASCII-Font Chunk Five, I extended Chunk Five Ex into a Unicode font containing all figures used in Latin and Cyrillic writing. It includes all Latin and Cyrillic extensions, as well as many letterlike symbols.
