ARB 66 Neon Line JUN-37 by The Fontry is a free retro outlined display font with towering, condensed letters and a nightclub sign look. Broad outer strokes frame slim internal lines, and rounded corners soften the severe vertical proportions.

Music and nightlife designers will find it suited to club posters and album artwork. Its tall silhouette also gives fashion branding a sleek, theatrical edge. The repeated inner channels recall neon tubing, turning each word into part of the sign imagery.

Beginning in January 1932, at the request of then-editor E. Thomas Kelly, Becker supplied the new Art and Design section of SIGNS of the Times magazine with one alphabet per month. The project was expected to last only two years, but it ran for 27 years and ended two months before Becker’s death in 1959. It comprised 320 alphabets in an almost uninterrupted run.

In late 1941, nearly ten years after the first alphabet was published, 100 of the alphabets were compiled and published in book form under the title 100 Alphabets by Alf R. Becker.

Published in June 1937, Neonline Block was Becker’s 66th alphabet in the SIGNS of the Times series.
